Vrak – Museum of Wrecks

Vrak – Museum of Wrecks

Vrak – Museum of Wrecks is a new maritime archaeological museum, sister to the Vasa Museum and located in the heart of Stockholm.

Vrak is a museum that tells about the world-unique cultural heritage that exists on the bottom of the Baltic Sea. With the help of digital technology, the museum brings the stories to the surface but leaves the wrecks on the bottom where they are best preserved.

The museum is part of the Swedish National Maritime and Transport Museums, SMTM. Retail United have assisted SMTM for several years in their planning and development work as well as with the launch of the museum itself.

As part of the launch campaign, orange buoys were placed in various locations in Stockholm’s waters.

The buoys had the chart symbol for wreck and a question mark – a little puzzle to make the public aware of the fact that there is a cultural heritage below the water’s surface and that the Museum of Wrecks was about to open.

The campaign received attention on the radio and in local media and was followed up with an inauguration by His Majesty the King of Sweden.
